Australia is a culturally diverse country, with a large proportion of our community being made up of people who were born overseas or whose parents were born overseas.

Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) children form part of that group. English may be a second language to them or their parents may not speak English and therefore English may not be spoken at home at all.

The experiences, needs and challenges of CALD children will at times differ from those of non-CALD children. It is important to be able to provide information and support in a way that can be easily understood, because different beliefs and ideologies can influence interpretation.

Below is information and resources to help and support CALD children and includes culturally appropriate child protection services.

Together 4 Kids (T4K) is an integrated service providing training and therapy aimed at helping children process the uncertainty and distress of homelessness. T4K work directly with children and in collaboration with other homelessness service providers and parents. We view parents as allies in our work; supporting them to learn more about their child’s experiences and strengthen positive bonds with their children.
