Sexual Concerns Workshop with John Hambledon
April 22, 2016 @ 9:15 am - 4:30 pm
Current and past graduates of Counselling qualifications at the Australian Institute of Social Relations are invited to attend this special professional development workshop presented by John Hambledon.
Sexual problems can be a source of intense distress to clients, and can often impact on a person’s core sense of themselves. There is a danger of minimising the importance and relevance of sexual issues: they can underlie other presenting issues, (e.g. gambling, substance abuse), and they can lead to serious relationship issues, relationship breakdown, anxiety, depression, and even suicide.
This workshop will focus on some of the more common presenting sexual concerns, issues that many people can expect to encounter in the normal course of an intimate relationship. It will focus on the way in which sexual problems are socially constructed, and how this typically both creates and exacerbates distress.
The aim is to assist practitioners to develop skills, knowledge and understandings to help them feel more confident in engaging with common sexual issues. It will also include a presentation addressing the notion of sexual addiction, and some of the concerns and debates that are associated with the widespread availability and use of pornography.
