Overview

This nationally accredited infant massage training, qualifies you to teach the First Touch Program to new parents. As a result of doing this training you will gain skills to deliver a program that supports sensitive and responsive parent-baby interactions.

Entry Requirements

All potential students are required to complete a Pre-enrolment Online component. This can be completed at any time for free and includes three short online infant massage modules (4-7 hours). No enrolment is needed to complete these subjects.

Completion of these modules is required before formally enrolling in the next stages of the course.

Age

To enrol in this course you must be at least 18 years old when your course starts.

Qualifications

To gain entry into this course you must have ONE of the following:

(a) A health, welfare, early childhood, child development or a related qualification at diploma level or higher.

OR

(b) A Certificate IV (or higher) in Massage.

OR

(c) A Certificate IV (or higher) which includes the unit HLTAAP001 – Recognise Healthy Body Systems or an equivalent unit.

OR

(d) Have relevant equivalent work, volunteer or life experience. This can be related to the care, health and well-being of infants. It may also be in a health education or promotion role. Your life experience as a parent, grandparent or carer of children is relevant experience for entry to this course.

Character

To gain entry into this course you must also be of good character. This means you must not hold any criminal convictions that would prevent you from working with children or other vulnerable people. You must also be in good standing with any associations, registration bodies or other similar organisations with whom you are associated.

Assumed knowledge

You will need sufficient English literacy and numeracy skills to complete this course. We recommend a minimum of year 10 level English.

You will also need to have a basic knowledge of the human body, sufficient to enable you to achieve the learning outcomes of this course.

Good internet connection with capacity to watch videos and download reading material.

USI: Mandatory Requirement for Students

It is a mandatory requirement of the Australian Government that all students undertaking study in Australia apply and procure a USI – Unique Student Identifier (free of cost). You can obtain further information and create your personal USI by visiting the website www.usi.gov.au. You will need the USI to apply for this course.

Employment Opportunities

The First Touch baby massage program is designed to be used in universal and primary prevention contexts, and can also be easily adapted by suitably qualified practitioners to meet the needs of families in secondary and tertiary health care settings.
