Forum 2024 Family and Domestic Violence: Finding Pathways for change 6 June 2024
In this country more than one woman dies per week and a child per fortnight from family and domestic violence. These statistics are worse in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and those with cultural and linguistic diversity. Not surprisingly, the statistics are demonstrated in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia lodgings where more than 80% of applications before the court have family and domestic violence marked by the parties as an issue. Finally, this issue has also been tragically demonstrated in South Australia in recent months.
At its annual forum on 6 June, the Pathways Family Law Network of South Australia will explore these matters with a view to change and in the following contexts:

In this half day workshop we will aim to develop a foundational understanding of the needs of people when they disclose child sexual abuse (CSA). We will look at the facts and figures associated with CSA in Australia and begin to explore the behaviours and responses that may be present for victims of CSA. We will explore ways in which people might make disclosures, as well as responses that help to lower feelings of shame and guilt. We will aim to equip attendees with tools and approaches to improve confidence and skills in this area.

Held monthly via Teams, this course is for frontline practitioners who work directly with children and families impacted by homelessness or family domestic violence.
A Community of Practice is defined as: “A group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly”.
We acknowledge the hard work frontline staff undertake every day to meet the needs of children and their families. Child Focused Communities of Practice is an opportunity to network, share practice knowledge, ideas, and upskill one another.
Monthly topics vary depending on relevant issues for families and frontline workers, significant events and themes within the sector, and topics requested by frontline workers.

It covers the definition and significance of digital literacy, basic computer skills, internet basics, communication tools, and software etiquette, and includes a hands-on experience with common tools like emails and teams. This short professional development course aims to develop your skills and knowledge so that you can support parents to notice and respond to their baby’s cues to enhance their nurturing relationship by providing a structured program of infant massage instruction in a group or with individual baby and parent.
Baby Massage for Bonding is based on theories of attachment and attunement, supporting infant mental health, and best-practice. It will add to your professional skills and build on what you are already doing with parents and families with an infant aged in the first thousand days.
This training is suitable for professionals working therapeutically with infants in the first thousand days and their caregivers, including frontline and specialist workers in homelessness and family and domestic violence services, therapeutic children’s workers, reunification, and intensive family support practitioners and those in community early childhood settings.
The course consists of four online topics, support from a course coordinator and a face to face practical day for demonstrations and sharing. If you cannot attend the final face to face day, we can negotiate a flexible solution for an alternative day.
