Course Overview

The Diploma of Counselling provides practical skills and professional knowledge for those wanting to support individuals through life’s challenges.
This nationally recognised qualification combines theory, self-reflection, and hands-on practice, helping you build safe, respectful, and empowering relationships with clients in a variety of counselling and support roles.
What you’ll learn:
  • Foundational counselling skills, including building rapport, managing boundaries, and ethical practice
  • Approaches to person-centred, strengths-based, and trauma-informed care
  • Techniques for supporting clients through grief, loss, mental health concerns, and other personal challenges
  • Risk recognition and response, including suicide and family violence
  • Reflective practice, communication, and interpersonal skills to support professional growth
  • Real-world application through case studies, role plays, and practical assessments

Prerequisites

It is recommended that individuals seeking entry have sufficient relevant work experience to demonstrate a strong likelihood of success at this qualification level in a role that involves providing support and client-focused services.

Fee

Full Fee: $8000. Subsidy gap via Training Contract for eligible participants (employer supported traineeship): $1500.
