Course Overview

The Family DOORS online training program helps professionals use the Family DOORS in everyday practice. This short course enables professionals to:
  • Discover each DOOR in the Family DOORS framework.
  • See the value of risk screening with every client across a range of risk areas.
  • Learn how to sensitively elicit risk information with clients.
  • Identify when to respond, when to refer and when to bring in immediate support.
The Family DOORS online training program has been developed by the Australian Institute of Social Relations. It draws upon wisdom of the authors of the tools and the practice wisdom of professionals who have used the framework many times.

Professional Development

Participants who complete the online training will receive a Certificate of Completion, which may be used towards Professional Development (PD) or Continuing Professional Development (CPD). It is advisable to liaise with your relevant professional body about their mandatory requirements if you are intending to claim for PD or CPD.

We estimate the learning and associated activities will take three to four hours to complete.

The topics covered are:

  1. Introduction
  2. What do we mean by risk?
  3. Why screen?
