|About||Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial assistance given to an individual in a mental health crisis or with a mental health problem. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.|
This course teaches adults how to provide initial support to other adults who are developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis.
Crisis situations covered are suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, acute psychotic behaviour, aggressive behaviour and severe effects of substance abuse.
From MHFA training, students learn; effective mental health awareness and literacy, and early intervention strategies. This course provides participants with the skills to recognise a mental health crisis, respond appropriately and support the individual to recover through positive health and return-to-work outcomes.
Please Note: Course content can affect some people who have or are experiencing a mental health problem. The course is not recommended for people seeking treatment or recovering from a mental health problem.
