Therapeutic approaches for families affected by domestic violence – 1 day workshop

This program is for workers supporting women and children from CALD backgrounds who have experienced abuse, trauma and neglect.

Based on the Therapeutic Parenting: A Relationship and Regulation Model*, this training provides insights into how individuals perceive their world; and teaches us how to understand the meanings behind behaviours we sometimes experience as challenging.

Participants will gain practical strategies to assist parents to respond to challenging behaviours in ways that support the healthy development of their children.

Effective use of Interpreters workshop – Mt Gambier

This training is for workers who provide services to people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Designed to develop an awareness and understanding of the impact of cultural issues on client support and outcomes for clients, this workshop includes:

  • overcoming language barriers with effective use of interpreters
  • the do’s and don’ts of using interpreters
  • the complexities of working with interpreters when responding to CALD women and their children affected by domestic violence

Working with African, Middle Eastern and Indian women affected by domestic violence

This workshop provides an understanding of what it means to work effectively with women from African, Middle Eastern and Indian cultures.

Historical and contemporary social, economic and political forces that impact women and men; and how these forces shape attitudes, behaviors and worldview are explored.

Practical cross-cultural communication and engagement skills required to work effectively with women are provided, as well as strategies that assist in meeting the needs of women affected by domestic violence.
