Relationships Australia South Australia CEO Judith Cross was featured in the Career One International Women’s Day special feature this past March, where she discussed her experience as a female leader in the social services sector.
Starting out as a social worker and counsellor, then moving into policy making in domestic violence and child abuse, Judith credits her counselling experience as what helped her to become a better leader.
“My work as a counsellor taught me how to listen to what someone says,” says Judith. “I learned how to bring out the strength in people.”
Judith was a member of the Premier’s Council for Women for six years and was appointed by the SA government to advise the Children in State Care commission of inquiry. She says that it was her passion and enthusiasm for the work she was doing that ultimately lead her to her role as CEO of Relationships Australia.
“I was following where my passion and capability takes me; the rest is a natural progression,” she says.
