2015 has seen the Australian Institute of Social Relations building relationships in new areas; particularly with Pedare Christian College in Golden Grove. After hosting a Year 10 student for a work experience week at Relationships Australia SA, the Institute was approached to deliver personal development coaching to Year 9 students during the last week of November 2015.
Educators from the Institute and Relationships Australia SA’s Counselling Services team delivered the ‘Building Better Relationships’ course to over 100 students at Pedare. The teachers and the student counsellor were particularly enthusiastic about course as it fitted in with the schools ethos about respect and communication underpinning all relationships inside and outside of school.
The feedback from the school was positive. Jude Johnson, Assistant Head of the Middle School noted that that the use of technology in the sessions worked well and helped to better get the message of building strong relationships across to teenagers.
“The interactive nature of the session provided an engaging experience,” said Ms Johnson. “The presenters even went over time into lunch time and the students did not complain as they were so engaged.”
This was the first time that the Building Better Relationships course had been delivered to school-aged students.
“I would recommend that this session would be highly suitable for a school based delivery,” noted Ms Johnson.
We look forward to further developing its relationship with Pedare Christian College in 2016.
